Calling all Goornong and Axedale residents!

Have you ever found yourself at a loss for words when a friend or loved one confides in you about a crisis they are experiencing? Then you will benefit from Lifeline Loddon Mallee’s free Open Community Mental Health and Mental Health First Aid training sessions, taking place on 14 & 16 May (for Axedale residents) and 6 & 19 June (for Goornong residents).

“As a member of the Goornong and Axedale communities, Fosterville Gold Mine is committed to doing everything we can to make these communities stronger and happier, which is why we jumped at the opportunity when the Lifeline Loddon Mallee team approached us to offer this mental health support program to our neighbours,” said Lance Faulkner, General Manager of Fosterville Gold Mine.

Lifeline Loddon Mallee CEO, Lisa Renato said: “We are thrilled that Fosterville Gold Mine has recognised the importance of this program for members of the Axedale and Goornong communities, so that they can support one another, when times get tough”.

At the Open Community Mental Health sessions participants will hear from the Lifeline counselling team about how to cope with cost of living strain, financial stress and relationship pressures; while Mental Health First Aid training provides participants with the skills needed to recognise and respond to someone experiencing a mental health problem, until professional help is received.

“At Lifeline we believe that no one should have to face their darkest moments alone; which is why we want as many people as possible to learn the skills they need to be a steady shoulder to lean on in the more difficult moments in life,” Lisa continued.

“I would really like to encourage community members to take advantage of these sessions and help achieve Lifeline’s vision of a suicide-free Australia,” Lance concluded.
